TESTAMENT's PETERSON Joins Guitar Legends For All-Star Jam
November 4, 2002TESTAMENT guitarist Eric Peterson joined Joe Satriani, Dave Meniketti (Y&T),Neal Schon and the rest of JOURNEY for an "all-star" jam at the conclusion of Bone Bash III, a one-day rock festival that took place Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Chronicle Pavilion in Concord, California.
The following is an eyewitness account sent to us by Walter Morgan, co-organizer of last year's Thrash Of The Titans festival and a close friend of TESTAMENT's, who was present at the gig:
"[On Saturday] night at Concord Pavillion, JOURNEY finished their set and came back out with an All-Star Jam: Neil Schon, the rest of JOURNEY, Joe Satriani, Dave Meniketti of Y&T, and filling in for an absent Ronnie Montrose was none other than our own Eric Peterson. They played the classic LED ZEPPELIN song 'Rock N Roll', with each guitar player doing his own lead solo. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, [and] I'm glad I stuck out all of JOURNEY's set to see this. Eric was fantastic, and so were the [other musicians that participated in] that All-Star [Jam].
"[The] night started off with TESTAMENT's first live show in 2 years, which was incredible for the hometown heroes, with a great crowd, and many, many, personal family and friends present to welcome [TESTAMENT singer] Chuck [Billy] and the rest of the band, back into the spotlight. Many people traveled from far-off places to share in this moment, and none were disappointed, that's for sure. TESTAMENT played just about one hour's worth of old classics and a few new [cuts] from their last effort, 'The Gathering'. Backstage, Neil Schon of JOURNEY told Eric he was in for the absent Montrose, who had left the venue already. While Neil went over the song with Eric, he told [Peterson] that he had, and liked, [TESTAMENT's] 'The New Order' album a lot. And Eric was very surprised that they [decided to invite] him [to partake in the jam]. But he showed no stage fright as he wore his long-sleeve TESTAMENT shirt, all dressed in black and went right to the front of the stage and rubbed elbows with Schon and Satriani while the four guitar players jammed. I know that was a high point in Eric's career, to play to a packed arena venue, with the older rock'n'roll legends, right in his hometown, with family and friends in attendance. Who would have thought JOURNEY would share the stage and the spotlight with Eric Peterson, and then throw in Dave Meniketti and Joe Satriani… Words can not even describe it. I doubt Eric will get much sleep tonight [Saturday], but when he does, and wakes up, he will realize that he's lived a dream."
